Walter Willis, Executive Director for the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO), will moderate a discussion of bills awaiting the Governor’s approval for 2022 and legislation to expect in 2023. 
The dinner meeting speakers are Jen Walling, Executive Director at the Illinois Environmental Council, and Alec Laird, Vice President of Government Relations for IRMA.  Togther they will discuss the waste industry-related bills approved by the General Assembly in 2022 and provide insights into legislation that may be introduced in 2023, including an update on EPR packaging legislation being developed with input from their organizations and possible re-introduction of a partial food scrap landfill ban bill.  Jen Walling will provide an update on the status of the environmental justice bill as well (HB 4093).   
This will be an interactive conversation where questions are encouraged. On Tuesday, April 26th, 2022, the meeting will be held at Village Links of Glen Ellyn, 485 Winchell Way in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The meeting is open to non-members.  
A cash bar begins at 5:30 P.M. Please try to arrive by 6:15 P.M., as dinner will be served at 6:30 P.M. The presentation will start immediately following dinner. The cost for the event is $50.00 including a plated dinner.

SWANA annually offers scholarships to students in studies in fields related to solid waste management.  In 2022, SWANA will award up to $30,000 in scholarships to deserving students. Further information on the scholarship programs, eligibility and application requirements, and application forms can be found on the SWANA website.

The Land of Lincoln Chapter of SWANA will be accepting applications on behalf of interested students for the Grant H. Flint International Scholarship Program, the Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Scholarship.  Please note that students must be a related to a SWANA member or become a student SWANA member to be eligible. Student SWANA membership is free and can be applied for at https://swana.org/Membership.aspx.

The Land of Lincoln Chapter Scholarship Committee will review applications and select one local winner from each scholarship category for consideration by the International Scholarship Committee by June 3, 2022.

Sanitation Workers Support Fund

Solid waste and recycling collection is a critical and essential part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The men and women working in the waste and recycling collection industry are on the front lines of protecting human health and the environment. SWANA is collaborating with Glad to support sanitation workers across the United States and Canada personally affected by COVID-19 through the Sanitation Workers Support Fund. For workers in the front-line of waste and recycling collection, financial assistance may be applied for.
